Old Writings - Pt. 4

In Part 3 of my "old writings" series I left off with a transitional poem, one that was written the summer before college but had been published the end of my first fall semester. Along with that poem, two others made it into the December '93 "Finals Week Edition" of the ISU Daily.

Below is a scan of all three as they appeared in print:

I remember being upset about the typos, I think at least one of them was my mistake- the others were the Daily's.

Remember Scott "Tattooed Guru" Andresen? He had poetry published in that edition too, and later went on to have a weekly column. Wonder what he is doing.... *googles* Looks like he married in '06 and lives in California. Remember another Daily columnist, Corey Moss? He spews the news for MTV now. I don't remember this chick specifically, but she had poems published that semester also. Gregory Parks has a myspace page. I don't suppose anyone is out there googling my name, if so- Hello! You found me. This is what I'm doing.

Anyway, after that Fall '93, it is all a bit of a blur. My diary/journals blank out after September '93, starting up for a few entries in February & March '94 before sputtering out again. There are two cryptic entries near the beginning of my sophomore year, in October '94, and then the storyline picks up again in February '95. Basically dorm life took its toll and I either wasn't focused enough, or didn't have quiet moments to reflect on anything until after that winter break when a group of us moved into a little house west of campus.

While my journals went quiet for a spell, I did keep "writing" and some of them I really like, as they evoke those blurry times perfectly... yet they are a bit incriminating. So I'm not going to share those now- you'll have to wait for the tell-all autobiography. :)

However, here are three that sum up the era of the missing diary entries:

...check back for Part 5, in which boy crushes pop-up once more, and then I grow up a bit and get "published" again.

I have been working on transforming my old website into a blog, and saw that there was a link to that site from here. I just wanted to tell you that you gave me such a laugh. I couldn't find the link right away, but then I realized I was "this chick". I have no recollection of publishing poetry in the daily, but I probably did. It was fun to read about all those old daily-ites and look them up.
